A challenging Stretch
Another yoga class, another reflection.
I was really confronted by something on Monday.
A pose which I used to do with such ease, now impossible (for many reasons). As those around me moved easily into this pose, I lay there trying adaptations, and supports, but had to acknowledge this pose wasn’t there for me in this moment, and I don’t know when it would be again.
That moment was tough, I felt sadness, and shame, and disappointment with myself. I also had to acknowledge that I hadn’t even tried to move into this pose on my own because I knew deep down it wasn’t available to me. It had taken this yoga class, and the challenge in it to enable me to acknowledge this to myself.
There was more in this moment though. It opened up something else I’d been struggling to access. My motivation was suddenly clear. Those choices which aren’t prioritised would now be easier - there was something tangible they were connected to.
My teacher had given me a challenging stretch (pun intended).
This is what good coaching should do for you.
Your coach will explore with you what is meaningful, and ask questions which will enable you to find these deeper motivations; the knowledge that is just outside your consciousness. What you do with that is up to you, but often once we know something, it compels us into action. It can unlock those doors which have been shut for so long, and sometimes doors we didn’t even know were there.
